Crop & Rotate Help for Digitizing Slides, Negatives & Pictures

Cropping

Our scanners are setup to scan an area slightly larger then a 35mm slide to ensure that the entire picture is captured, this is called overscan, and because of this all scans will have a thin black border around them. As an option, you can choose to have us crop this border for you.

Due to the shape of most slides some image loss is inevitable in removing the overscan area (which is actually part of the slide itself). The images below show how the cropping process works and how little of the image is lost in the cropping process.

Image Rotation

All slides are fed into our scanners in the same direction therefore vertical images will need to be rotated so that they are viewed properly on your computer screen. With our crop & rotate option we will rotate the vertical images for you.

NOTE: Close up pictures of insects and plants are often difficult to tell which side is up so as a policy we leave them as they are.
