We offer many choices for the Image Quality of your scans measured in DPI (dots per inch). The higher this number, the more information is being stored from the original image. This is important for when you want to enlarge the image or make large prints.
A 35mm slide scanned at 4000 DPI will produce a print 15 x 22 inches at 240 DPI (without interpolation). Interpolation is when your software attempts to increase the dimensions of your image by making up or creating pixels to increase the image size. This is compared to a slide scanned at 1000 DPI which has a print size of only 4 x 6 inches.
The samples below all come from the same slide scanned at 3 different resolutions.

At 2000 DPI you can see large pixels and the overall images looks grainy.
|
At 3000 DPI the pixels are much more difficult to see but the overall image still looks grainy especially if you look at the 2 hairs in the image.
|
At 4000 DPI the image now looks much clearer, you can see more detail in the 2 hairs and can also start to see texture in the skin. |
